Stamps for charity is a fundraising scheme run by Dad and Daughter team, Ken and Tracey
Ken is based in Nelson. Lancs. For many years worked in retail before changing career path to the ambulance service. Now in retirement concentrates mainly on charity interest. Has a very personal interest in TCF and all its magnificent services.
Tracey is based in Manchester. Works as a manager for a leading company of contract upholsterers. Enjoys being involved with charity fundraising. Has great admiration for the work done by TCF, and also has personal interest in its future survival.
In January 2005 we learned that ?TCF? was in desperate need of financial assistance, to enable it to continue its invaluable work. Following some discussion, we came up with the idea of collecting used stamps, and selling them (mainly on E-Bay) to raise money for the charity. We set about finding contacts, sending out letters, and approaching companies, and individuals who we knew.By March we started to see the fruits of our labours. Stamps began to arrive, and we were on our way. Little did we know the amount of work it would entail. Packages came in all shapes and sizes. All had to be sorted, graded and quality checked before they could be sold. The most valuable even had to be individually soaked off the backing paper, dried and pressed flat before being packed into saleable lots. We initially had about 50 contributors. That has now increased to a mailing list of 170. However due to the amount of printed labels now used by the post office, and the tremendous growth in e-mail communications, stamps are getting harder to find. That is why we have to continually appeal for new collectors. You will see on another page just how much we have made in the past three years or so. Every penny that we get goes to the charity without deduction.(We pay in monthly, and have receipts on file.)
